11:00 | Masterclass “Modern Tendencies in Short Films: what works and what does not. From themes and style to endings” given by Millán Vázques from Agencia Freak. 

CEF, Escuela de Artes Audiovisuales (Exclusively for students)  

Masterclass on the new trends in the world of short films. The students at CEF Mallorca will discover what style of short films is working best at festivals and why. They will be shown examples and given pointers on how to create a successful short film. The activity will be given by Millán Vázquez, General Director at the prestigious independent film distributor Agencia Freak.

11:00 | Masterclass on “Making Animated Puppets” with Irene Iborra from Citoplasmas Stop Motion Animation Studio. 

Ladat Studios (Exclusively for students) 

Given by the multi-award-winning stop motion animator Irene Iborra, the students at Ladat Studios will discover the art of creating functional puppets from nothing, with which they could make their own stop motion animations, and what has to be considered when designing animation puppets.

16:00 | Pitching Documentary Projects with a Female Viewpoint, with the collaboration of CIMA Balears.

Female directors from five documentary projects will be selected to perform a pitch in front of a panel of judges.
The winning documentary project will be awarded with a professional accreditation and will attend a prestigious Market/Festival of European cinema specialising in documentaries in either 2020 or 2021, to be chosen from: IDFA, Doc Salon by the European Film Market, CPH:Dox, Dok Leipzig, Dokfest München, Sheffield Doc/fest, DocsLisboa, Visions du Réel, FID Marseille, Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival, or Sunny Side of the Doc. They will also receive personalised advice from the judges on which festival to choose based on the aims of the project.

The panel of judges is: Joan Carles Martorell (Director of IB3 Televisión), Cristina Llambias (Managing Director of the Instituto de Industrias Culturales), Pedro Barbadillo (Director of the Mallorca Film Commission), Valérie Delpierre (Film Producer, Inicia Films) and Rosa Bosch (Film Producer, B&W Films).

18:15 | Coaching for Scriptwriting and the Development of Projects, with the collaboration of APAIB and ACIB.

Balearic film-makers working on eight short film projects in the scriptwriting stage will be assessed in-person in Palma by two “script doctors”, who will help them to improve their projects.

Script doctors:

Isona Admetlla: sociologist, cultural manager, teacher, consultant, audience designer and coordinator of the Berlinale World Cinema Fund.

Zebina Guerra: scriptwriter and screenwriting teacher at ESCAC (the Cinema and Audiovisual School of Catalonia)

Masterclass with the producer Valérie Delpierre and the Director of the Festival Sandra Lipski on strategies of international festivals and markets, and the publishing of works beyond our own borders.

Valérie Delpierre, producer of successful films such as Summer 1993 by Carla Simón (winner of 3 Goya awards and 5 Gaudí awards) and The Girls by Pilar Palomero, which premiered at the Berlinale and won the Biznaga de Oro for the Best Spanish Film at the Málaga film festival; along with the short film The Disinherited by Laura Ferrés, winner of the Leica Cine Discovery Award at the Cannes Film Festival and the Goya Award for the Best Short Film.

Sandra Lipski, director of the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival and founder of the company The Festival Key, which is dedicated to helping female film-makers design a festival strategy.

11:30 | Meeting for Balearic Film Festivals, with the collaboration of Illes Balears Film Festivals

In the setting of Mecal Balears, the first face-to-face meeting between all of the festivals that make up and coordinate the association of the Illes Balears Film Festivals will take place. At a round-table, all of the common issues that affect them will be discussed and debated, and decisions will be made around positive collective actions that will benefit all of their members.
