Short Film Market

Mecal Pro organizes the Short Film Market, an activity that aims to build bridges between funding and talent, by providing a space that facilitates creators, buyers and distributors to meet. A space that is needed in Barcelona and that encourages the movement of work, exhibition and purchase, as well as networking

It will take place in the Casa Gràcia during three days in a specially-accommodated space. There will be computers for the creators to exhibit their work, coffee service and a special «one-to-one”.

Coaching on Pitching

A pitch is a presentation technique that is getting more and more common in the audiovisual industry, in contrast to the traditional reading of scripts. is activity stems from the will to support artists, so that they can master the key communication techniques to present and make their project appealing for a pitch presentation. In order to do this, we will have professionals who will be advising attendees: Cristina Calvet, lawyer, specialized in the intellectual property law, Ruth Cantarero, short films purchaser for RTVE, Álvaro Yebra, programmer, distributor and culture manager, and Carmen Puche, producer consultant, director and scriptwriter.

Coaching on Crowdfunding Verkami

Microfinancing, or crowdfunding, is a very interesting alternative to traditional financing for young talent and for those who want to ensure themselves a greater creative freedom and autonomy.

In this formative session, the selected participants will receive advice from professionals from Aritz Cebrián, responisble of the audiovisual projects in Verkami, the most important micro nance platform in Spain, through a personal encounter that will give them improvement tips, patterns and ideas.

Barcelona Film Schools

Here in Mecal, we believe in young talent and this session is a bet for promotion. On the «School’s Day», the best short films from film and audiovisual schools of Barcelona will be exhibited, a great opportunity for students to show their films on the big screen. Furthermore, the attending audience will decide who is the winner of the Most Innovative Short prize, courtesy of Avisual Pro, consisting of audiovisual equipment hire for one year, valued at 2,000 €.

The following schools are invited: Cine en acción, ECIB (Escola de Cinema de Barcelona), La Casa del Cine, Bande à Part, Plató de Cinema, EMAV (Escola de Mitjans Audiovisuals), the Pompeu Fabra University, the University of Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

To promote the exchange of experiences and projects and ideas, the event will close with a networking drink.

Programmer’s Battle

Mecal Pro challenges two short film professionals under this only premise: to choose the works that they consider that are worth for any reason and play them for the viewers. After that, the viewers themselves will be in charge of deciding who is the winner with their shouts and clapping. The two opponents in this edition are:

 – Peter Murdmaa, program director at GoDebute European Film Festival, short film culture distributor at ShortEst (Estonian Short Film Center) and creative director of Baltic Preview.

 – Jorge Rivero, programmer at Curtocircuito (Santiago de Compostela International Film Festival), Gijón Film festival and Aguilar Film fest, and founder of Baltic Preview.
